The Jackhammer, Huntington’s newest gay nightspot, gets high marks from the Pride crew. We were there for the Fur Ball, sponsored by the Bear Men of West Virginia, and a fabulous time was had by all. Located at 2127 Manchester Ave, The Jackhammer features two floors (pool tables downstairs, dance floor upstairs, bars on both) and a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and there’s never a cover charge, although you do have to be 21 to get in. Be sure to visit them on myspace to learn about their upcoming events and nightly specials.
On June 6, as part of Pride Week, The Jackhammer will be playing host to the 2009 Mr. West Virginia Bear Contest, also sponsored by the Bear Men of WV. Preliminaries will be held May 15 in Charleston and May 30 in Huntington. Click here for details. We hope to see you all there!
Senate Bill 238 has passed the state senate. With a vote of 23 in favor and 10 against this bill will now move to the West Virginia House of Delegates.
We expect this bill to be a hot button issue for those opposed to true equality in West Virginia.
Take action now! We need each of you to make a phone call, email, or postal mail contact with each of your Delegates.
To find your delegates visit the West Virginia Legislature web page at:
At the lower right side of the screen you can type in your zip code to determine who your elected officials are.
If you need to know your zip+4 code you can find it at the United States Postal service website at:

Let’s stay positive, and move West Virginia forward on the path to equality.
We would like to invite everyone to come out to The Broadway at 210 Leon Sullivan Way. Charleston, West Virginia 25301 (304) 343-2162 on Sunday February 22, 2009.

The Rainbow Mafia made another trip out, this time to Huntington. Piled in a Lincoln Towncar the size of our egos, the six of us made our way from Charleston to Huntington by 11pm.
First stop, the Polo Club. Situated in a warehouse district, this bar has a very neighborhood bar feel.
As luck would have it, the batteries in our normal camera were dead and the camera phones could not pick up enough light to take any acceptable photographs.
A well attended crowd with a show by Martina Dezerea made way to a performance by Frankie.
Polite and friendly staff with great drinks, the Polo was a perfect way to start off the evening. A spacious table arrangement with a well-stocked bar. A good time was had by way.
After a few rounds of drinks, we made way to the Stonewall.
This place was packed. All age brackets. Good music, great staff. This place is equpped with a total of three bars, two pool tables, a cabaret lounge, dance/techno space and a retreat-like lounge upstairs.
We hope that this will be one of the many future trips we make to the Polo and the Stonewall.
On the next trip, we make plans to visit the Jackhammer, Huntington’s newest bar.
More pictures will follow.

Welcome to The Rainbow Report!
This is a new project for Rainbow Pride and we are excited for the opportunity to inform, educate and entertain the GLBT community of West Virginia and its allies. We are starting out slow and we are hoping to grow with more reporters. Right now our site is in real time. This means as we post articles they are viewable to you the reader!
Three reporters and the Chairman of Rainbow Pride of West Virginia make up the editorial board of The Rainbow Report. They are:
Charlie Rouse, Chairman of Rainbow Pride. He will be chiming in every week with his opinion and political news and events relevant to the West Virginia GLBT Community.
Dave web designer and blogger will be writing about online action for the GLBT community and on events of interest to the local community. David also works to design our parent site http://pridewv.org.
Caroline Starr, local lady about town, activist, mom, and sister in pride will be covering our Charleston Beat section and Lez B Friends. The Charleston Beat will focus on local events and be the society page for GLBT Charleston. Lez B Friends will focus on issues and information to the Lesbian Community of West Virginia.
Jeremy Elswick, A.K.A. Milla Rich, will be covering the state drag circuit. Our resident friend and diva will provide a colorful review of female impersonation in West Virginia.
