Senate Bill 238 has passed the state senate. With a vote of 23 in favor and 10 against this bill will now move to the West Virginia House of Delegates.
We expect this bill to be a hot button issue for those opposed to true equality in West Virginia.
Take action now! We need each of you to make a phone call, email, or postal mail contact with each of your Delegates.
To find your delegates visit the West Virginia Legislature web page at:
At the lower right side of the screen you can type in your zip code to determine who your elected officials are.
If you need to know your zip+4 code you can find it at the United States Postal service website at:

Let’s stay positive, and move West Virginia forward on the path to equality.
We would like to invite everyone to come out to The Broadway at 210 Leon Sullivan Way. Charleston, West Virginia 25301 (304) 343-2162 on Sunday February 22, 2009.
The fun will get started at 8:00pm with Stephanie Michelle, special guests Viki Williams, Michelle St.James, and friends to help raise money for Rainbow Pride of West Virginia. Lets all come out and support our community and West Virginia Pride.
LESBIANS DO GET AIDS! This is a fact, but that’s not the only reason we should have been commemorating on World AIDS Day. Leadership was the theme for World AIDS Day 2008. Since we first learned of AIDS, lesbians have taken leadership roles, mainly in caring for our dying gay brothers and pressuring political leaders to take action. Even though the AIDS epidemic in the United States is not as it was 20 years ago, AIDS is still taking its toll on the lives of millions of Americans, Africans, Europeans, Asians, Gays, and Straights alike. What can you do to help stop the spread of HIV and AIDS not just on World Aids Day but throughout the entire year? Here are a few simple and fun ways you can participate to help throughout the rest of 2008 and 2009.
The Department of Health and Human Services is working with AIDS.gov to promote “Facing AIDS: World AIDS Day 2008″. This is a web-based campaign that allows people; positive and negative alike; their support of all people living with HIV/AIDS. There are four easy steps to joining this effort.
Social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace are all the rage. HIVtest.org offers a collection of web buttons that you can add to your social networking page.
If you have teenage kids or you even own a cell phone you have probably noticed how texting has become such a huge part of their life. Adults are even joining in the texting fun. Find HIV testing sites near you by sending a text message containing your zip code to the number 566948 (”KNOWIT”). Within a few seconds you will receive on your phone a list of HIV testing sites in your area.
If you missed World AIDS Day this year don’t worry. You can help by continuing to inform people of the risks of AIDS all year long. Try any of these fun ways to promote HIV testing and to raise HIV awareness.
Welcome to The Rainbow Report!
This is a new project for Rainbow Pride and we are excited for the opportunity to inform, educate and entertain the GLBT community of West Virginia and its allies. We are starting out slow and we are hoping to grow with more reporters. Right now our site is in real time. This means as we post articles they are viewable to you the reader!
Three reporters and the Chairman of Rainbow Pride of West Virginia make up the editorial board of The Rainbow Report. They are:
Charlie Rouse, Chairman of Rainbow Pride. He will be chiming in every week with his opinion and political news and events relevant to the West Virginia GLBT Community.
Dave web designer and blogger will be writing about online action for the GLBT community and on events of interest to the local community. David also works to design our parent site http://pridewv.org.
Caroline Starr, local lady about town, activist, mom, and sister in pride will be covering our Charleston Beat section and Lez B Friends. The Charleston Beat will focus on local events and be the society page for GLBT Charleston. Lez B Friends will focus on issues and information to the Lesbian Community of West Virginia.
Jeremy Elswick, A.K.A. Milla Rich, will be covering the state drag circuit. Our resident friend and diva will provide a colorful review of female impersonation in West Virginia.

” I’m probably never gonna be able to walk down the street holding hands with my lover without the rest of the world giving us a look. I may never have the wedding that I once dreamed of and I may never have anymore children, or I may lose the one that I already have. And one day when I die, people will never give as much respect to my grieving lover as if she were my grieving husband.”
Equality and rights for all… thats what I wanted my first article to be about. Life may not always be fair and some people can be cruel, but with enough people fighting and enough people caring, in my opinion, things can and will change.
People think that we as lesbians don’t have as many problems as most gay men, but they are wrong. We fight for rights just as much as they do and in so cases not only get excluded from the hetrosexual community but we also get excluded from the homosexual community. We need to stand up and fight for our rights in all aspects of life. Equality for everyone is what I want regardless of how you classify yourself.. Gay, Straight, Bi, Lesbian, Butch, Femme, Bear, Queer, or Queen! Learn to love yourself and soon others can not get you down!
